The Center of Compassion Backpack Program
About the Backpack Program
The Backpack program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends. The program provides a bag filled with food that is child-friendly, shelf stable, and easily consumed. Bags are packed each week by the Center of Compassion’s staff and delivered to the schools. The school discretely distributes to participating children every Friday afternoon.
Backpack Facts
The Center of Compassion started the Backpack program in 2013, at Dover Elementary and has since expanded to Wingdale Elementary and Middle School.
Approximately 100 backpacks were distributed between the three schools weekly during the 2020-2021 school year.
